Sixteen British and four Japanese warships are stationed in the vicinity of Shanghai

The Viceroy of Nankin and Admiral Seymour have settled a scheme for the maintenance of order in the Yangtze Valley.

Admiral Seymour exchanged friendly visits with the Viceroy of Shanghai. The latter agreed to the landing of 3000 British troops for the defence of Shanghai.
