UNFURLING THE FLAG.
On Saturday last the whole of £«f«»™* turned out to witness the event of unfurling the flag at the public school. Mr Bryce, the chairman of the committee, introduced In a few prefatory words Colonel Dawson. who spoke on the flag and mentioned the fact .that he was the first to lead the colours of the colony in time of war, and that he handed over the colours to the Imperial authorities on the departure or the troops. Colonel Dawson's address was forcible and to the point. Colonel. Dawson then unfurled1 the flag,- amid cheers fpr the Queen. Father Patterson then spoke of the high virtues and goodness of the Queen, who was a model mother wife, a-nd ruler. The speaker also referred to the. death ox the Duke of Edinburgh, and to the patience with which the Queen bore her bereavement. She would have the sympathy of all present. Mr Freed then gave an address on the duties of children to their superiors. Mr Budge gave an excellent address on the meaning of the flag and the honour to be paid to it. Hearty cheers were given for the Queen, Colonel Dawson, Father Patterson, and the visitors., .Refreshments were then provided by the ladles In the schoolroom. In the evening the hall was crowded to witness an entertainment given by Messrs Cooper and Macdermotfe/ion 'the Transvaal war. This ended a very pleasant day, and one memorable in the history of Panmure. , . ] ; .: . ; : /:■.; !
