The annual meeting of the members of the Thames Miners' Union was held last night. Mr O'Keefe presiding. There was only a small attendance of members. The annual report stated that the affairs of the Union were in a satisfactory state, notwithstanding the year's expenditure was unusually heavy owing to fatal accidents to four, members, and also to purchase of offices at Coromandel and the erection of a hall at Golden Cross. The total accident pay amounted to £1000, being larger than any previous year. The total assets increased from £3425 to £3842. The report referred to the system of protection for mines which had grown to a serious extent. It stated, tb.at the President had appeared before the. Warden on behalf of the Union and had impressed upon him the necessity for mines being thrown open to tributers. Mr Hubbard asked if that meeting had power to instruct the trustees relative to investment funds, as the Union had over £900 in the Post Office, on £500 of which only was interest paid. Mr Mcßnteer stated that in the case of a Friendly Society the Post Office paid interest on full deposit. Mr McEnteer also moved that any member drawing pay from the accident fund who returned to work without giving notice to the secretary be fined five shillings. Mr Hubbard seconded the motion, which was carried. The President stated that the rules had been registered and that any member could now get copies,
