THE TREASON BILL.

CAPETOWN, August 3
, In the Legislative Assembly, Mr Schreiner, the late Premier, delivered a strong loyalist speech in support of the Treason Bill, under "Which rebels are to be punished by disfranchisement and, in serious cases, imprisonment. He upheld the declaration of martial law in Gape Colony, and maintained that partial law meant saving the country from dreadful consequences. He stated that no martial law had. ever been less harshly administered. Referring to the alleged'existence of an Afrikander conspiracy, Mr Slihreiner denied that any such organisation existed
The enemy's astounding invasion 1 of Cape Colony was, he said, utterly ■unexpected. /In concluding,* he pointed out that the Afrikanders in Cape Colony rose spontaneously.^ CAPETOWN, August 2: Mr-liose Irines, in moving the reading the Treason Bill, declared that the amnestyinpr, of :9,000 rebels vas impossible, sifl(?e Great Britain would not consent fo ttich a thing.
