WAITEMATA COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Waltemtfta County Council was held this morning at the secretary's office. Present: Mr O'Neill (Chairman), Messrs Alison, Sinclair, Hal^ field, Cochrun, Bruce, Wilson, and Phillips.
Deputation.—A deputation of Northcote residents, with Mr Gilbert as spokesman, attended, and presented a largely signed requisition requesting the Council to I'fx the levels of the Northcote streets permanently.—After some discussion it was decided to refer the whole question to the; engineer.. Petition.—A petition to Parliament, signed by 80 residents of the Wade, Wainiii, and Waiwera districts, was laid on the table, asking that as the rates collected by "the Waitemata County Council are quite inadequate to keep the roads in decent repair, the sum of £700 be placed on the Estimates for the improvement of the roads, to be allocated as follows: — Waiwera. - Tipper Waiwera - Parakidkftii, £250; Wade-Wainui, £250; Wade-Da,lry Flat-Albany, £200.
Correspondence.—A letter wns received from the Lands and Survey Department Wellington, acknowledging receipts of Council's letter containing resolutions of the Council, representing that the Council was unable to maintain the East Coast Road from Takapuna to Warkworth in a fit state to bear traffic, and requesting that thO sum of £800 be placed on the Estimates for the purpose of repairing the road, and stating that the request would receive full consideration. From D Gouk, declining to accept Council's sum passed for payment, and requesting payment of full amount due to him for repairs to the bridge at Waiwern. Council agreed to adhere to previous decision. From Samuel Vaile and Sons requesting that Council take steps to repair the approach to Miss Nesbut's property, • occupied by Captain Harvey at Northcote. Referred to the Riding members. , Road Repairs.—The Hon. E. Mitchelson wrote saving that he had purchased some 93 acres 'of land at Motuara, principally with the object of preserving one of the most beautiful pieces of bush in the North Island, and that as he purposed building a large house on the ground lie would like the Council to put the road in wrriir as he would huvo to cart large nuantities of bricks and timber. He would accepted up to £20. Mr T. W. Deacon wrote calling attention, to the bad State of the Kumeu-River-head Road. Referred to the Engineer. The Chief Surveyor wrote forwarding a telecrram from an under surveyor stating Hiat a waggon and fourteen bullocks liad lißPii destroyed at the Wade owing to the bad state of the road. Referred to Riding member with power to act. New Road.-Mr J. Foster wrote asking that a road be formed through a block of 740 acres 'to bo shortly taken up at P'Lremoremo, which would benefit intended settlers. Decided to request Mr Foster to cont'flf with the Engineer. Finance.—Accounts amounting to £IG2 ig/f) were pasasd for payment. This concluded the business.
