In the course of a private letter Ithe "Rev. Father Amandolini, late of . Hamilton, -write?) from- Rome, under date June 13th, as follows:—Just now I am spending- a few days in Home, (but the heat iss getting too great for sight-seeing. The great sight of Home is the hoary old man at the [Vatican, and him I saw on Sunday last. There, must have been 20,000 (people at St. Peter's, yet the church was not half full. The appearance of the Pope was the signal for loud and prolonged cheering, waving of handkerchiefs and clapping oil hands, yet all was orderly. The Pope will not appear in public again before the •summer heat is over. His face, his hair, and his skullcap are of the same ■colour, snowy white, yet he seems to be full of life and vigour. Prom time to time he stood (rose) straight upupright on his portable chair, and blessed the *vildly cheering cnowd. Then he knelt during the whole time of a Jong service, and had to submit to another cheering ordeal while he jraf. being carried back to his apartments. All this must be trying to a man 91 years old. I do not find Koine tniif-'h changed since I saw it last. Excavations are still going on in the Roman Forum and elsewhere, and. a^t treasures are constantly found,' tad stored in the different museums.
