TE AROHA, Wednesday.

DOMAIN BOARD MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Domain Board took place this evening, in Board Room, His Worship the Mayor (Mr B. Gallagher) in the chair. Present: Councillors Hirst, Bygrave, Wallace, O'Meagher, Edward, Mills.

It was agreed that Mr Crombie be sent to Auckland to re-arrange case of photos in Free Library.

The Clerk read the annual report he had prepared for the Government Year Book, which was favourably commented on by members.

A statement for four weeks ending Ist August showed receipts: Baths, £4112/11; library, 17/; towels, £3 18/4. Total £46 S/3. A further statement showed cash in hand and in bank, £335 14/8; less accounts owing, £114 11/3, leaving a credit balance at date of £221 3/5. Receipts were £8 6/1 over the corresponding month last year.

D. W. McArthur, engineer, forwarded certificate for ' £48 15/ for payment to contractors for work done during the past month on Domain improvements, and recommended that the contractors be notified by the Board that they must double the number of men at present employed. This was agreed to.

Mr H. J. Matthews, State Forester, wrote that he had selected 100 native trees and shrubs from D. Hay and Sons' nursery, Auckland, and that twelve English birch will be got gratis from J. G. Barrett, Whakarewarewa. Mr Matthews wrote that he agreed with the Board's suggestion to construct a fountain and fish pond in the. centre of lawn, where the present band stand is. He suggested that the band- stand be removed to where the meteorological observatory now stands. Masefleld and Co., Auckland, wrote that a flag pole would cost £18. Left over till next meeting.

The Board agreed that J. McKee be instructed to get 50 native trees from bush for planting in Domain. Mr Pavitt, engineer, was instructed to draw plans of new building for No. 6 bath, the: architecture to be similar to new private bath building. The cold mineral water will be laid on to the new bath buildings' at an early date. A start will be made next week to lay the tfipes for same. It .was agreed to build a reservoir to reserve the mineral water at source. This will be much appreciated, as baths will be got purely mineral water.
