The Imperial Government lias cabled accepting the Protectpr at colonial rates of pay.

The proposal to send a contingent to China was severely criticised in the Council, and narrowly escaped rejection, being only carried on the casting vote of the president. The proposal was characterised as a farce, there being no analogy between sending troops to Africa and despatching themto China.
