NEGLIGENCE OF BICYCLISTS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir—Two ladles, yesterday afternoon, were' crossing Karangahape Rd., in front of BendeH'H shop, when they saw a •scorcher of the gentler sex riding straight towards them. They slopped to let her pass, but as she appeared to have lost control of her machine, one of them moved to one side. Attempts to avoid a coi» lision proved futile, for the cyclist ran into them, knocking one down, and the wheel catching- her dress, dragged her along the road. The other lady's umbrella was smashed. The person responsible for the catastrophe went on her way, not"so much as waiting to see what damage she had done. Sno may consider herself fortunato that she lias not to answer to a charge of manslaughter. It is disregard of the feelings of others of this nature, displayed by a section of cyclists, which embitters public feeling against cyclists as a body. Liadies crossing a street are,, frequently, owing to vacillation, somewhat difficult to pass, but there is no excuse for running into a person and then not waiting to do all in one's power in the way of apology and redress. Such procedure as that recounted above brings cyclists into disrepufe.—Yours, etc., N.Z.C.
