Regarding the statement made by the Premier, to the effect that he would prevent the landing of Austrians in New Zealand, I understand he is acting under the advice of the law offieersof the Crown, as hfe did in the, former case, which is in effe'et that he can prevent the landing of Aus•trians if it can be shown that they are likely to be, a burden on the State. The ■■ Union Steamship Company become responsible, for three months' maintenance of the men" lately landed, but AiTstrians cannot get a license until.they have been three months in the colony.
