CAPE NOME GOLD RUSH.
The western slope of the continent is again much exercised over the news from the Alaskan goldfields. Reports from the new Cape Nome district equal in astonishing accounts of the richness of the country any of the tales heard the last two seasons from the world-famous Klondyke. Nearly 50,000 people have gone up into the Nome district this season. Some of 'the steamers that carried fortune-seekers have returned, bringing some treasure and more stories of the wonders of the country. Many conflicts over claims are reported, and a great deal of trouble is anticipated in the settlement of conflicting titles. It is thought the output this season from Alaska will be enormous, even as compared with last year's.
