VOLUNTEER NOTES.

The Auckland Xavalr Artillery held a shooting competition at the Avondale range on Saturday for several prizes, the principal one being iue company's belt and a medal presented by Mr Teutenberg, both of which were won by C.1.0. Jackson, who shot very steadily aud consistently both in this and the former competition, and his win was a very popular cue with the men, who gave him tlired hearty cheers when the sews were announced.

This was tuo second competition far the ben, aggregate scores in the two competitions to count. Tee tiring at 400 anJ 500 yards also counted for a modal ;>reser ctd by Mr Teutenborg and three prizes p.'esented by Lieut-Commanding Clemens ard a fourth by C.P.O. Jackson. The medal has to be won three times before it becomes the property of winner, and this is the second "leg-in" that C.1.0. Jackson has scored. As the top prizes are of abo.it the same value, the three -highest sowers tave to attend at tho orderly-room this evening to make their choice in the order of merit, and the prizes themselves will be presented at the company's at-home on Wednesday evening. The firing was under thj direction of Lieut. Salmon, and passed off satisfactorily. The following were the principal scores in each event:—

A.N.A.V. Belt, 300, 400, and 500 yards.— C.P.O. Jackson, total 88, Ist competition 70, argregate 15S; Gunner Letham, total 70. Ist competition (U, aggregate 140; Gunner Co\»an, total 71. Ist competition oG, aggregate 12"; P.O. Turner, total 77, Ist competition •i'J, aggregate 120; Gunlayer Morteusen, total 05, Ist competition 49, aggregate 114. For medal and company's prizes, 400 and 500 yards.—C.P.O. Jackson, Ist prize, C 6; Gunner Letliam, 2nd prize, 52; GnnJayer MortenKen, 3rd prize, 51; P.O. Turner, 4th prize, 50; Gunner Cowan, 40; Gunlayer Hi>rkiu, 45; Gunner Lndlow, jun., uO; Gunner Hughes, 20. There were nine other competitors.
