PRESENTATION.

Mr James Young, chief clerk in the maintenance section of the Auckland Railway, having been transferred to Christchurch, was on Saturday evening presented with a purse of sovereigns by his comrades in the service. The presentation was made in the Waverley Hotel, over 100 gentlemen being present. Mr Biss, local resident engineer, presided, the vice chair being filled by Mr A. V. MaeDonald. The usual loyall and patriotic toasts were honoured, after which the chairman proposed the health of Mr Young. He mentioned that their friend was leaving to assume a more important position. He felt he would be echoing the sentiments of all in saying that not only had Mr Young found a place in the heart of every railway official, but also in the heart of everyone he had come in contact with outside of the Department. (Hear,' hear). Mr Biss then .on behalf of numerous officials and friends, presented Mr Young with a purse of sovereigns, as a token of their esteem, and in making the presentation he wished Mr and Mrs Young and their children every happiness and prosperity. After the vicechairman and several others had spoken eulogistic-ally of Mr Young, that gentleman suitably replied. Mr Ohlson, on behalf of the Parnell Cricket Club, also presented Mr Young with a handsome travelling case. Mr Styles, sta'tlonmaster, proposed "The Health of the Railway Management," coupled with the names of Messrs MaeDonald, Biss, and Bowles, and made kindly mention of the present Minister for Railways, and also the late Ministerial head, Mr Cadman. The toast was duly honoured and responded to. Songs and recitations were rendered by Messrs Dennison, H&mmil, Harrison Hunt, McKenzie, Rogers, Stevenson,' and White.
