VOLUNTEER NOTES.

The Devonport Coastguard Artillery Volunteers fired for the Lindsay Cup and other prizes on Saturday afternoon at the Mt. Eden range, the conditions being five shots at 200, 300 and-500 yards, one sighter being allowed at 500 yards. Class firing targets were used. In order to get good light at 500 yards that range was fired first, somewhat to the detriment of the men, as several of the carbines were considerably out in the sighting, the difference being as much as 150 yards in some cases. The general opinion is that the Martini-Enfleld is inferior to the MartiniHenri in that respect. Darkness prevented the match being finished. The principal scorers so far are: Grant, Maxwell, Griffiths, Walton, Rose, Taw arid Cleghorn.
