The meetings at the Army Barracks Albert-street yesterday were largely attended, considerable interest being shown in the enrolment of new members. Lieut. Doran took farewell of his many friends, and expressed gratitude at having made the acquaintance of the Auckland public, his term being the most enjoyable he has had in any part of New Zealand. A final farewell tea takes place on Thursday next. The Cable Company advises that the line between Kurrachee and Bombay is interrupted, cutting off the Hindo European, and Turkish route. This will cause further delay to traffic. '
A naval officer, interviewed at Sydney, throws some light upon the advance that is being1 made in the speed of torpedo destroyers. At a trial held last month the Viper, a vessel of 370 tons, attained a speed of 34$ knotsequal to nearly 40 statute miles—per hour. Her indicated horse power is set down as 11,000, despite her small size. As a matter of comparison it may be noted that the flagship Royal Arthur has an indicated horse power of only 12,000. The Viper's speed would enable her to run from Sydney to Auckland in a little over a day and a-half. and to London from Sydney in something like 15£ days, always provided, of course, that she could carry the fuel..:
