POLICE COURT.
YESTERDAY.
(Before. Mr T. Hutchison, S.M.) The ''Sanitary" Crusade.—The following defendants pleaded guilty to neglecting-Ho clean private yards, and were each fined £1 and costs:—Peter Lorariza, John Stacey, John Schisehka, James McNaughton, Helen O'.Hara, Lvi Kinkella, Lizzie Corney,-and A. PlumIcy. T. S. Skeates and H. Marion were fined only 10/ each, as it appeared that other occupants had contributed to the. nuisance in each case. James Thos. Trueman was fined £1 and costs nr seven days' hard 'labour Tor neglecting to clean his stable yard. Sarah Butler pleaded not guilty, through Mr Mahony, to a charge of neglecting to clean a private yard. A conviction was recorded, and a fine of £1 and costs imposed. George Fraser was fined £2 and costs on a like charge. John Fenwicke was fined £1 and costs for allowing ihg contents of a privy to overflow. Several cases were dismissed. Mr Turner, sanitary inspector, conducted the prosecutions.
THIS DAY.
(Before Mr H. W. Brabant, S.M.)
Drunkenness. —For this offence Mary Hamilton and Andrew Lewis were each fined £1 or-seven days' hard labour; and Mary McManus 5/ or 24 hours. A first offender was convicted and discharged.
Theft.—Mary Brown .alias Daniels, an old woman of three score years and ten, who had a long 'list of previous convictions, was sentenced to three months hard labour for stealing three vests, value £2, the property of Henry Sankey.
Maintenance.—George Powell was sentenced to one month's hard labour for disobeying an order of the Court in respect of maintenance; warrant to be supended 14 days to allow defendant to pay up the arrears.
Dirty Yard—Frank Williams, for whom Mr Ba.ttley appeared, was convicted on a charge of neglecting to c.le..n a private yard, and fined £1 and costs 9/.
