TE AROHA, this day.
A highly .successful" patriotic school - concert, in honour of the relief of Mafeking. was held r'fn the Public Hall,' the use of which was kindly granted free by Mrs Smardoiv. Sir G. M. O'Rorke delivered a short splech, full' of burning patriotism. A' remark • which he made in reference to Colonel , Baden-Powell caused trementfous applause. It was tha. he' would like to ' read that Colonel Baden-PowelL uf to- ' day was General Badcn-Povveli b£ to- . morrow; Miss Feafoh sang., with'.char--' acteristic effect, "The. Abs.nt„minded", Beggar." In response, the kum.of £2;, was thrown on the stage, ajicl 6,ver £G • 1-0/ was taken at the door/foj! atlmis^.sioh; The proceeds will be devoted to - the erection of a t!ag:stafl;' and flag in' the school grounds, and the. purchaso df' an ensign for the children. ■ The, hall was packed to the doors. • During" the singing of the songs the audience insisted on singing the choruses'oyer-', and over again. Altogether, the. gath- - ering was a tremendous; success,;.and, much of the credit-is due,to Mr Burton, the schoojmaster, who worked like a ■ Trojan all day, carrying out the"neces- . sary arrangements. ■ • • • -
