■A PRACTICAL/, SUGGESTION. _/ (By Telegraph.-/-Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Some time ago/, the Caledonian Society; on winding/ up, sent the- balance of their funds (I £105) to Colonel Hector Mac Donald'/ for the use of the sick and wounded at the Highland Brigades of Boiler's any/t Methueirs forces. The President" of J the Society, has received. a letter from/ General Mac Donald, explaining tha'/t there is no Highland, Brigade wiy/j General Buller, but he has placed ji he money to the credit of all the Higj/aland battalions in Africa. He proceec/is, "I have to ask you to reconsider// the mode of distribution. The sick a/nd wounded are amply provided witvh every comfort, and any extras tl/iey may fancy are always forthcom'/ing; indeed, hardly any wish is left ui/igratified. It would therefore be throv//ing good money away expending it,, i as you have not been made aware c/,f how beneficially the hospitals are suypplied. I would, therefore suggest fey hat the money bo expended in aid 611 proctiring artificial limbs for | ■vvouw.ded soldiers and. jtowards the I snpp'prt of wounded and sick soldiers j whil'/3 out of employment after being disc-Vnarged. I have to thank you for you/r generous gift, which, I need not ! ass/are you, will be of the greatest j bey'/iefi't, and which has been received i wi/th the utmost gratitude by the j srj/ldiers, who will ever remember the practical friendship of their countryvjaen in New Zealand."
