WELLINGTON RACING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING.
j TRIUMPH OF FOP.MOSAX OVTJK ADVANCE. | (By Telegraph.—Press Association.} ; WELLINGTON, Wednesday. j The course was very holding, and the i calculations of the probable winners were j upset to a considerable degree, the favour- ; lies scoring in only two events. The downfall of Advance in the Challenge Stakes was a great blow to local sports, but the favourite, though prominent for n short while, never appeared to relish the heavy golnjr. and was badly beaten out of a place. On ! the other hand, Mr Stead's colt, Formosan. despite his penalties, galloped thronsh the. mud in first-class style, and it is doubtful whether on a dry day the result would not have been the same. Jabber ran away with the Thompson Handicap, and the wins of Messrs Ormond and Stead in the chief events of the clay were very popular. With a limited attendance, speculation was not so rife as at the former autumn meetings, yet the machines handled £8973 THOMPSON HANDICAP of 350sovs. One mile. H9_Hon, J. r». Going m great style, Formosan drew out two j lengths in front as they raced along the back of the course, whlde Autaia gave way to Paphos. From this out Formosan had j the advantage. Holmes allowed the youngster to salt along in front at his own gait, but after turning for home, and when nearI ing the distance post, Cannle Chlel came up with a wet sail, and the whip had to be taken to Formosan; but, finishing most gamely, he struggled home by a length.with Paphos a good third.
