MOUNT ROSKILL.
The. annual meeting of the Mount Hoskill Eoad Board was held last night, Mr J. S. Kidd (Chairman) presided. There was a good attendance of ratepayers present, including several ladies. The annual report stated that on 18th May, sopn after the Board took office, they commenced by a tour of inspection over the various roads In the district. Tenders were called for carting, and a satisfactory price was accepted. A scoria pit had been opened on their own ground. The Board suggested that a public pound should be erected in the district to prevent cattle wandering about the roads to the annoyance of the residents. Mr Bagley at his own. cost formed and contributed to the gravelling1 of Rose Eoad, the Board paying- the balance. Melrose Avenue was now a dedicated road. The Board also in their report stated they were determined not to allow anything. of an unsanitary nature to be deposited in the district. A slaughterhouse license applied for ,by Mr Tntt had been refused. The slaughterhouse of Mr "R. Salmon was
kept in a highly satisfactory state. The report regretted that the electric tramways were not yet running through the district, owing to obstruction on the part of some local bodies. It was pleasing to know, however, that the Order in Council had been signed by the Governor. Good progress had been made by the Manukan Water Trust Board, and in twelve J months time the district should have a good water supply. The balance-sheet showed the year was begun with dr. balance of £19 7/G. The total receipts for the year had been £470 12/11. and expenditure £45G 19/9, leaving a credit balance of £13 15/2. The report of the Board and statement of accounts were adopted. On the motion of Mr W. Percival it j was carried that ratepayers' cattle be allowed to graze on the roads from. sunset 1o sunrise.afte.'- which ~'me the ranger to have liberty to put them in : the pound. | Mr BagJey spoke against city offal i being deposited in the district. | Mr Barker upon whose land fish ' heads from the city and night soil | ! from Onehunga -were deposited, stated j | that none of the neighbours had com- j ' The Chairman said the Inspector of ' : Nuisances had orders to prevent in- j i similar}' matter being deposited in the ! district. . i Mr Druee said fish heads were not ■ more offensive than other manure i brought into the district. 1 The matter was left to the Road i Board as the Board of Health for the district to deal -with. Mr Bngley urged that the Board should endeavour to make their donifiin fit One' Tree Hill more popular, and give the public access to it. I The Chairman stated that for a time the young trees must be protected. Dr. Campbell had given 7J acres |of ground as an addition to the Po- , main. i On the motion of Mr W. Percival a ■ vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman and Board. Mr Kidd in -reply said the Board had done their best for the ratepayj crs. The road wanted to be put in I better order.
