THE THAMES ASSAULT CASE.

THAMES, this day. Messrs Tiszard and Prater, J.^.'s, were occupied the whole day yesterday hearing cases of assault, obscene language, and unlawful trespass against Samuel Quadri and Henry White; also a cross-action for assault against Constables Potter and Davis. Mr Clendon appeared for White, Mr Harper for Quadri, and Mr Miller for the police, in order to save time, it was decided to take all the charges together. Constables Potter and Davis swore to having found Quadri and White in an enclosed yard at the Imperial Hotel at 11.45 p.m. on March 20th, and that when asked their reasons for being there, both Ueclined to give any ami violently assaulted the constables, and later on made use of obscene language. Both constables were injured in the fracas, and Potter's uniform was badly torn. Frederick J.adner and John Garrett mainly coroborated the constables' evidence.
For the defence, Henry White swore that he went to the hotel for the purpose of getting brandy for his wife, who was ill, itncl that Quadri, who had been having- supper with him, accompanied him. White and Quadri swore that the constables made an unprovoked assault upon them, and that they only defended themselves. Richard Power and Mrs Smith also gave evidence for the defence. ' Evidence in the case was not concluded until 7.30 p.m., when the Bench intimated that owing to the immense amount of evidence, which was of such a contradictory character, they would be unable to give their decision until Monday next at 2 p.m. "-< White and Quadri were released on their own recognisances of £25 each.
