(From Our London Correspondent.}

LONDON February 16.

Gunner F. C. ream, "0" Battery, OR.H.A., with General French's force, on sth January, writes to his brotherat Derby:—"l had one or two very narrow escapes last Monday. A bullet dropped on the top of the wheel about. a yard away from me when we were ton the gun. One of their shells whizzed past and landed about 10 yards in the rear, knocked a spoke into splinters out of the limber, and twisted the axle. As we were goingl out of action in the evening, the man riding next, ito me got shot through the back of ;the neck, the bullet coming out of his mouth, and bringing- his front teeth ,\vith it. ... The New Zealand Contingent are in our force, and right good fellows they are, too. The General told their officer that he must not let them be so reckless, or they would he getting- cut off." Here is a pithy letter from an Inniskillmg" Fusilier: — ■ . Dear Father,— My tyre's unpunctured, my ticket's unpunched, From all bodily ills I am free, I'm as black as a Kaffir, as fat as a piff, -~■•■»■ \ And as happy as happy can be. i Your loving- son, ) SRensburg;, 19th January.
