THE BUBONIC PLAGUE.

SYDNEY, this day. The seventh case reported last night was that of a man named Brown, who had been inoculated. Tt is believed all yesterday's victims were employed in the infected area. About 400 persons are shut Tip in ihe quarantined district. Most of thorn belong1 to the working1 classes. The Government are feeding them and using- the males to clean up the place. The Government are obtaining from Home a quantity of serum to inoculate, and they will take steps to more rapidly destroy rats. The'Huddart-Parker Co. have definitely decided to keep the s.s. Westralia. in the New Zealand trade for the present. The Elingamite will be put in the Australian running, so that there will be no vessel arriving from Sydney on Monday next. The s.s. Mararoa will leave Auckland for Sydney on Monday next, but there will be no steamer between the ports on the following- Monday. The mails by the s.s. Waihora were landed on Motuihi yesterday afternoon, and after fumigation were brought up to Auckland for distribution early this morning. The mail included a Suez mail dated London, February 1(>. Within the last four days the bodies of 12^ rats have been delivered to the pumping station for cremation. This number would lead one to believe that rats were scarce here, but perhaps the truth is that the small boy is allured by brighter attractions than catching rats at a penny a head.
