q. lIAWEKA, this day. A woman named Walker, who was arrested at Auckland on a charge of receivingl siolen property, was discharged, there being no evidence against her. George Milhvard Walker, also arrested at Auckland, on a charge of burglary, at Hawera, was committed for trial. CHRISTCHURCH, this 'day. It was stated at a meeting of the City Council last night that the overdraft amounted to £13,870. WELLuSXUON, this day. Captain Owen, District Adjutant, has been requested by the Defence Minister to assume temporary command oi' the Wellington Volunteer District. At present it is not certain if Colonel Webb will come to Wellington, or whether Captain. Owen has charge of the district during Colonel Xewall's absence with the Fifth Contingent. DUNEDIN, this day. In the Divorce Court to-day a decree nisi was granted in Aland Halliwell, of Qneenstown, v. Josiah Charles Vincent Halliwell, of Auckland, wife's petition for divorce on the ground of desertion.
