INSPECTION OF SCHOOLS.

At the Board of Education this afternoon the following applications for appointment as Inspector of Schools were submitted to members:—F. P. Burton. 8.A., Dargaville; J. Christie. Bnyfleld; C. T. Edwards, Mercer; H. J. S. 'Ellis, Maungutawhiri; J. Fisher, Kauaeranga Sandes-street School; D. W. Jones/ Papakura; T. L. May, Panmure; D. D. Metge, Helensville; D. O'Donoghue, Mt. Roskill; F. J. Ohlson, Beresford-street; It J. Parry, Point Chevalier; P. J. B, Peaeocke, late relieving teacher; E. C. Purdie, Hamilton West; A. H. Rust, Whangarei Heads; C. A. Semadeni, Pukekohe West; A. IT, Shroff, M.A., Turua; T. B. Tanner, Tauraiiga; A. Taylor, Northeote; Geo. Thwaites, Epsom; W. 11. C. Walker, 8.A.. Wellesley-street; W. IT. Worsley, Warkworth; J. Elliot, Huntly; J. Wooller, Ilikurangi. The applications were dealt with in Committee.

The list was first reduced to six, the names of Messrs Purdie, Ohlson, Burton, Taylor, Metge and O'Donohuo being left in. The ballot, was then reduced to three—Messrs Purdie, Ohlson and Metge remaining in. Another ballot left Purdie-and Ohlson in, the final res-ulting in Mr Purdie being elected inspector of schools.

Sir Purdie is head master of tho Hamilton West School, and possesses a Dl certificate.
