(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Monday
The Premier has sent the following letter to the secretary of the National Dairy Association:— "I am extremely sorry to find that in the emergency* which has arisen, nnd there being necessity for the Government to obtain the services «f the Waimate for taking troops to the Cape, dairy produce will he detained for some little time. It is my desire that you communicate this to your principals, for I feel sure that they will understand that this would not htfve occurred if there had been any possible way out of the difficulty, -and I must 'appeal to* their patriotism and hope that the Shaw-Savill and New Zealand Shipping Companies will be exonerated from all blame. It Was an emergency that had to be met. I trust any little loss or inconvenience will be compensated for by the object for which the boat has been obtained."
