POLICE COURT.

At the Police Court this morning before Mr T. Hutchison, S.M., Robert Sullivan was fined 5/ or 24 j hours hard labour for drunkenness and David Mclndoe 5/ and costs 7/. for leaving a cart unattended. Edward Garritty, charged with! causing the death of Lily Elizabeth! Doolan by omitting to attend to his: horse and cab, was further remanded for a week to enable the police to se- i cure the attendance of a necessary! witness. ' j Ellen Marks, who did not appear, [ was charged on the complaint of ;Samuel Marks with using threatening-, language towards their childf Charles John Marks. His Worship after hearing the evidence decided to ' bind the mother over in her own recognisances of £25 to keep the peace ' towards her boy for twelve months. Mr . Collins appeared for the complainant.. Several cases brought by the Sanitary Inspector (Mr T. C. Turner) were dealt with. Mary Davis was fined 5/ and costs 7/ and Duder Box 20/ and costs for neglecting to clean back yard. The Magistrate remarked that people with dirty back yards had the health of the city at their mercy, and in future, in view ,of tho precautions being taken to prevent the introduction of bubonic plague into this city he would not deal leniently with such pases. Edward Jones, charged with failing to provide a stench trap for his drain, was convicted and discharged, the neglect having in the meantime been remedied. A charge against Edmund1" McKechnie, of allowing a water!1 closet on his premises in Grafton'' Road to be unconnected with a drain!' leading to the sea, was withdrawn ' on payment of costs 7/, the necessary ' alterations having been effected.
