A deputation from Wairarapa waited on the Minister for Public) i Works at noon and suggested that in 1 considering the deviation of the Elmutaka railway line, -tlie- route from Ladle bend, near the summit, to ■ Featherston be surveyed, as they con- ■ tended that a grade of about one in seventy would be secured. The Min-. ister promised that a survey "would'be . made, as the only desire of the GoI vernroent was tosecure the best route, easy of grade and mileage.
