DROWNING ACCIDENT.
A young man named White,' aged 22, son of Mr S. White, contractor of Auckland,. Was drbwned'at Karekare Bay (formerly known as Kerikeri) West Coast,, nearWaitakerei,. on Monday last. Mr White arid his family had been camping.at Karekare, and on Monday the party were on the beach, the son going to fish--on a roclc The others climbed tip the cliff,' and lostsight of him. Shortly after, Mr White's son-in-law Avent back to!.vee if White was alright., and fotlrid that he had disappeared. lie. rushed to the beach, and saw the body of ''White'in the sea, but as he could hot swim could do ' nothing to recover it. He gave the alarm and Mr White rushed to the beach and .jumped in to dive, for the body, which had then sunk. He could riot find it, and had difficulty in getting back to the beach, owing to the undertow. Yesterday -Mr Carter, of Karangahape Road; who has also been camping at Karekare, rode into town, and .on the way reported the circumstances to Mounted Constable Crean, iof Avondale. When- Mr Garter left the body of White had not been recovered, and to-day Constable Crean left for the bay to assist in the search. White, who was subject to fits, had had two I on the previous day.
