TO-DAYS DOMINATIONS.
The qiiestion of appointing Licensing' Committees for the next three years is not to be allowed to be passed over in some districts without a con* test. .Attempts were made to avoid the city being1 put to any expense in the matter, as the recent Local Option Piill decided that matters were to remain as at present. Further attempts were also made to obtain the return of five gentlemen who hold moderate views and were altogether outside and independent of the trade in any waygentlemen who, it was thought, would be acceptable to the great body of citizens. The prohibition party, however, wanted the candidates pledged to ten o'clock licenses, so the negotiations had to be discontinued. The temperance party are fighting- the
question in the interests of ten, o'clock
licenses. Nominations for the different c;omra|ittecs close to-day at 5 p.m.
It may bo mentioned that the electoral districts of the colony are constituted ordinary licensing districts, and the electoral rolls for such districts are used at elections held under the provisions of the Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control Act. The licensingcommittee consists of the Stipendiary Magistrate and five other electors fo> the district. . . •
