SCENERY CONSERVATION SOCIETY.
A meeting of the members of the Auckland Scenery Conservation Society was held yesterday afternoon in the Mayor's room at the Municipal Buildings. There were present: — Messrs E. A. Maekechnie, H. Burt, W. Berry, and Dr. Purchas, who presided in the absence of Dr. Campbell. The secretary, Mr Allom, reported that the zig-zag track at Nihotapu had been completed, but the proposed excursion to Itihotapu had not been arranged. The report further stated that as the time for tree plantingl was approaching it was advisable to issue leaflets furnishing information regarding a list of trees suitable for planting in. various localities. The meeting decided to try and hold the excursion 'to Nihotapu at an early date. A letter was read from the Inspector of Telegraphs re the suggestion that aerial wires should be enclosed in cables, stating that the communication had been" forwarded to the head of the Department. Mr W. Beehau wrote suggesting that one of the prettiest' walks about Auckland could be made in. the natural bush in the cemetery gull}-. He considered that lakes and miniature waterfalls could be formed, and beautiful walks made. The matter was referred to the Cemetery Gully Committee, and Mr Maekechnie's name was added to that committee. Mr P. T, Ward was elected a member of the committee in the place of Mr Brett, who had resigned, and his name added to the Finance Committee.
