Alfred Dudley again stood fortrial on an indictment containing- two counts chargingl him with making!. false statements in an affidvait with reference to the loss of a residence site-" license at Mackaytown. The case war before the Court ..last week, but t?»8 jury., failed to agree.' The .Hon.-J". A.i Tole conducted the case for'- the; Crown, and Mr Jackson Palmer appeared for accused. To-day -the' cvi- j dence of Mr R. S. Bush, S.M., T.-'A. Moresby (clerk of the Warden's Court), Constable Brennan, and -the exhibits were admitted as on the judge's notes, the evidence of Mr Jackson, solicitor ■ of Paeroa, to be admitted as ;on the depositions. . -

Affer a..short deliberation the jury found a verdict, of guilty. Mr Palmer asked that prisoner he granted probation. He pointed out that he was a young man. pHis Honor said he uc'old not see his way to grant probation' in this case. Prisoner had piit himself forth that day' and had given evidence on his own behalf, thus committing » second offence. The jury had. evidently thoughtt he had ' committed perjury. Prisoner had made it worse by stating what the jury evidently did not believe. In such cases His Honor said he never admitted prisoners to probation. The sentence of the Court would be four months' imprisonment with hard labour. •';V
