ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chamber last night. There were present His Worship the Mayor (Dr. W. R. Close Erson), in the chair, Councillors Stoupe, Brown, Bradley, Yates, J. Shaldrick, Eowe, MeLeod, Colledge.
Repairs Wanted.—ln reply to the Council's notice to the tenant ot! the Blockhouse Reserve, calling' upon him to put thep lace in repair before forfeiting' it, he proferred to lease it for a further period of three years, at a low rental, and put it in good order. —■ Referred to the Reserves Committee to consider and report at next meeting.
Electric Trams. —Mr W. Coleman, solicitor for the Electric Co., wro#j asking a conference with the Council at an early date. The Mayor moved that the writer be informed that the Council will grant a conference at an early date, due notice of which will bo given him. Mr Brown seconded. Mrs Yates considered that the matter of discussing- the electric tram service should be taken at once. The facilities given to the travelling' public at present were not what they should be. It was resolved that the consideration of the matter be dealt with during ihe next fortnight.
Right of Way.—Mr F. W. Court wrote asking that the Council arrange the right of way on his property in Queen-street, to enable him to make a transfer, The matter was referred to the Streets Committee.
Resignation. —The Sanitary Inspector and Ranger wrote, tendering his resignation as from the 2Sth inst. The Mayor moved that it be accepted, subject to the terms of his appointment. The Mayor also moved "That for the better conduct of public business the Finance and General Purposes Committee bring up a report of any recommendations to the Council they think advisable, defining1 the various duties and responsibilities of the officials in the employ of this Council." Mr Shaldrick seconded, which, after discussion, was carried.
Accounts.—The. Town Clerk read the financial statement which showed all accounts to be in credit. Accounts amounting1 to £70 were passed for payment. Sanitary.—The Mayor moved that tenders be invited by advertisement in "Star" and "Herald" for the removal of night soil:, (a) Carrying out the contract per house under the present system (b) carrying1 out the contract under the present enamelled pan system; (c) that the-question of striking aerate to meet the contract be considered ill committee next Monday. Seconded by Mr Howe and carried.
On the motion of Mr Shaldrick a resolution was passed, Mrs Yates alone dissenting,1 deprecating any of its menvbers writing to the public press communications attributing unworthy motives to any member of. its body.
