THE CABLE SCHEMES.
SYDNEY, March 2, Mr Crick, referring to the Victorian , Postmaster-General's suggestion, inj dicated his intention to conclude the ; agreement with the Eastern Extension Company. Queensland and New Zealand protested without knowing the details. The best answer he could give them was that when it was concluded they would approve and join in. With regard to Mr Chamberlain's j despatch, the report of the Pacific i Cable Board was made without knowing the particulars. He had cabled .to Mr Chamberlain to that effect. As ,it was admitted the Pacific cable j would not be completed under three I years the amended offer of the Eastern Extension. Company' would iih-J mediately give reduced lvites to England with a 2s 6d rate to the Cape. No concession was asked for till the completion of the Pacific cable. ' '
