The Defence Office has not replied to the offer of seventy-eight full}' equipped men by the executive of.the Alore Alen Committee. It is underStood that no decision will be come to until the quota from the other districts is arranged, when the number from each district .will be adjusted. The steamer Akmtefiord will only provide accommodation for 250 men, and their horses.
DUNEDIN, Wednesday
The rain to-day interfered with both shooting and riding tests. .Mounted drill was carried on in the morning, and the men got a soaking' by - a thunder shower. The ground dried up at once, and dismounted drill was carried on in the afternoon. Respecting the Oamaru men, it was decided to take 13 into camp, and should any of these fail their places may be taken by some of the others selected in Oamaru. So far only two of the men have joined the eainp. Fifty South-land-horses were inspected to-day when four were rejected. The other;; were passed and branded.
