CORRESPONDENCE.
THE CEISIS-A SUGGESTION.
<To the Editor.)
Sir, —As the leaders of our Empirq deem it an imperative duty at the present crisis to increase the army, I ■would suggest that New Zealand at once take the initiative and offer to the Home authorities a regiment of llegulars from each of the two islands. The mind and spirit of the great nation is roused, and all its men are ready to uphold its status; and 1 would point out to you, Sir, that there are hundreds, yes, I believe, thousands,: of men in this colony willing and anxious to join, the flag- on short service. These men are physically better than the. Home standard requires. I know we are doing well for the cause. Money has been, and is still, flowing1 freely in to pay for the contingents, and to the patriotic fund, but we. can do still more. Britain wants men, and while the war spirit .is amongst us let it have full vent, and let us show the world that we, though the furthest from home, have not forgotten the Mother Country, who- so freely sent her sons here, many of them to die, hi the sad days. I need scarcely point out that the Imperial authorities would gladly pay all expenses incurred.—l am, etc., E.J.T.
