SONS OF THE EMPIRE.

Far over hills through country green, Fighting for Empire and for Queen; There side by side are to be seen Kinsmen from o'er the main. They show the world they can unite, Determined to uphold what's right, And fearlessly they nobly fight, Heedless of death or pain. 'Tis love that binds them to each one, 'Tis, love that makes the weak grow strong, 'Tis love that urges them along, And naught dare come between. Their hearts beat fast, they ask not why.. They wait riot for a brother's cry. 'Tis duty bids them "do or die," For country and for Queen. Then, New Zealanders, Canadians, " Indians; Africans, Australians, May God assist your great desire, To protect Queen and her Empire. Tho' a. hundred years have passed away, America has proved to-day, l>eep-rooted in her heart still lay True love for Motherland. In hour of need—from out her homes— Not with trumpet, nor beat of drums, Bur with deep sympathy she comes And offers Friendship's hand. Canada, so loyal and true; New Zealand, though your sons be few; Australia, all, we welcome you— O! glorious is the scene. And India, too, her rights doth crave, And Africa with sons so brave United, all are pledg'd to save Their Empire and their Queen. Then New Zealanders, Canadians, etc. In storm or rain, 'neath tropic suns, Now storming hills, now facing- guns, All honour to our Empire's sons: God bless them one and all. They fear no foe, they fear no race, The dear old flag they'll not disgrace, And will not yield till high they place The banner o'er the 'Vaal. And how they fought, and how some fell In battle wild, midst shot and shell, Their gallant deeds we'll proudly tell When all is calm—serene. From east and west, from south -and north Have nobly come these heroes forth, Demanding Right, and to support . Their Empire and their Queen. Then, New Zealanders, Canadians, etc. —JOHN CRAMPTON, ~;..;.; In the "Natal Witness."
