FRANKLIN AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

The annual show under the auspices of the Franklin Horticultural Society was held to-day at Pakekohe and was well attended, the weather being all that could be desired for such an occasion. A special excursion train left ■Yuckland at 8.25 this morning, and the cheap fares tempted numbers to visit the show and spend a day or two In"the country, the tickets being available until Monday night. Other visitors im-ived by the train which left Auckland nt 9.30, and also by the down train from the Waikato. As usual, farmers and their families within driving distance of Pukekohe attended in large numbers, the result being that the rural township presented a gay 'appearance, the crowd of visitors being further added to when the second 'excursion train from Auckland arrived at 2.30. A programme of sports had been arranged, the first event starting [shortly after the second train arrived. ■The items included riding competitions, bicycle races, and high jumps for horses, Mr J. Roulsion, jun., being the sports secretary. There was a good display of agricultural implements, vehicles,' chemical manures, as well as ,specimens of various local industries. The eifeets of the dry season were noticeable in the exhibit of fruit and 'garden produce, and also in the condition of .some of the live stock. Judging did not begin until the ordinary train arrived, shortly after 11 o'clock, as it brought up some of the judges. Entries for the Show show a. shortage of about 200 compared with last year. Some clusseS have been dropped altogether. There is a. good display of bottled and preserved fruits, bread and pastry. The exhibits of fruit are not numerous, but are excellent samples. Mr IT.
