BOWLING.
THE END OF THE TOURNAMENT.
At the conclusion of yesterday's match, Wellington v. Newmarket, the assembly partook of refreshments at the hands of the president of the Rerauera Club (Mr T. Finlayson), after which Mr A. W. Thomson (vicepresident of the Northern Bowling Association) addressed a few words to the assembled company. He congratulated them on the very successful termination of the inter-club tournament of the Northern Bowliiig Association of New Zealand. lie considered it was the most successful gathering of its kind within his experience, which extended over the last twelve years. The glorious Weather and the experience and organizing- skill of their secretary (Mr Mentiplay) had chiefly helped to make the gathering a success. The entire tournament had been characterised by a spirit of true sport. This feature of the gathering had rejoiced the heart of one of the oldest and moat brilliant of the exponents of bowling in the North Island. Hfe referred to Mr Paul, of New Plymouth. Another interesting and pleasing feature was the presence of fourteen bowlers from Australia. (Cheers.) Their manager (Mr Horroelcs) had said that they had tried the quality of New Zealand bowlers and were quite satisfied. Although unsuccessful they were delighted with their reception, and would carry back only kindly memories of their visit. And last, but not least, the visiting bowlers acknowledged with hearty thanks the generous hospitality accorded to them by the varous clubs in the district, and they also own the kindness and splendid hospitality of the local president (Mr Kirker) on Saturday last on his fine grounds at Ponsonby. He would ask them to give three hearty cheers for the Remuera Club, who have specially entertained the visitor on "the last tour." He g-ave them "The Remuera' Bow-ling Club," coupled with the name of their open-handed president (Mr Finlayson). The appeal was warmly answered by three hearty cheers. Mr Finlaysofl thanked those for the good feelino- manifested towards him. It Was the greatest pleasure for him to entertain them.
The Newmarket team called for thrpe cheers for th* Wellington team, which were heartily given, nnd the W>lling-ton team returned the compliment. Three cheeks were given for Stewart Dawson nnd Co.. the donors of the trophies, four tnnrble clocks '•nine .-£9 each, snitnblv ens-raved, plensantlv ended the Northern T,"wling Association's Tournament of 1900:
