BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The Auckland Board of Education met this afternoon, Mr R. H. Hobbs (Chairman) presiding. There were also present Dr. McArthur, Messrs L. J. Bagnall, J. Muir, |R. Farrell, and S. Luke. I Resignations— The Chairman _ reported that the following resignations of teachers had been received:—-Mr B. Bailey, head-master of Ponsonby School; Miss M. Cummings and Miss M. E. Renshaw, assistant Kauaeranga Baillie-street School: Miss Rose Poland, pupil-teacher, Beresford-street. ■ The chairman expressed regret at ! the resignation of Mr Bailey, and mov!ed that the Board send Mr Bailey an I expression of their appreciation of ' his services during the past quarter of la century. Messrs Farrell and. Luke ! also spoke in praise of Mr Baileys services, and the chairman's motion was unanimously carried. Selection of Teachers.—l he followin^ report of the Teachers Selection Committee was submitted:— "1. Your Committee recommend that the following appointments should be authorised by the Board:-Mr F. E. Lowe be head-master of Otorokanga ischool; Mr A. F. T. Ansley to be teacher of Hohoura school full-time; Mr X C. Maclaurin to be teacher of Walhopo school full-time; Mr D. A. McKay ito'be teacher of Waipu Upper school; 'Mr A. E. Jackson to be teacher of ibkoroire school; Miss M. Muir to be 'teacher of Ardmore school; Mrs L. M. Berry to be teacher-of Oruru school; iMiss A. Penzholz to be teacher of Miranda school full-time: Miss M. A. Dean to be teacher of Kaiawa school fulltime; Miss A. Jane to be teacher of Mata Mata- school; Miss S. G. Jones to be teacher of Otau aided school; Miss M. W. C'legliorn to be seventh assistant- Newton East school; Miss L. M. Hill to be assistant teaclier Opotiki school; Miss A. M. H. R. Bayly pupil-teacher from Kuaotunu to Chapel-street school; Miss A. M. Matthews pupil-teacher to remain at Waipu Central school; Miss H. Reid pupilteacher from New-ton East to Helensville school; Miss S. M. Allely pupilteacher to Otumoetai school; Miss E. ,A. Nutsford pupil-teacher to Papatoitoi school; Mr P. R. Burton pupilteacher to Kuaotunu school; Mr W. H. Smith pupil-teacher to Huntly school. (2) Your Committee recommend that applications for the , head-mastership of the Ponsonby school be invited by advertisement from teachers classified AT,-BL CI. and those who in 1596 werd! in the Board's service and classified DI. (3) Y^oujr Committee have examined the applications (23) received in answer to advertisement for the position of first assistant master of the Parnell school. Five of the applicants do not fulfil the conditions set forth in the advertisement, and your.Committee recommend that- they^be informed accordingly with a caution against making irregular applications of The kind. Your Committee recommend that the names and qualifications of the undernamed applicants be sub-' mi tied to the District School- Committee:—Messrs A. E. Trayes A H Shroff M.A., A. J. Hill, C. R. Munro, J. hj. Elliott, (4) Your Committee [recommend that School Committees be consulted in regard to proposed appointments as follows:—Paeroa— second assistant, Miss M. Shaw; third assistant, Miss L. B. Maxwell. Huntlv —assistant, Miss M. J. Lane; junior assistant, Miss C. S. Hutchinson. Kauaeranga Baillie-street—junior assistant Miss S. Johnston. Newmarket—third assistant. Miss A. M. Murray Kaukapaka.pa—assistant, Miss O A. Twiname. (5) Your Committee recommend that the question of supply. ing a pupil-teacher to each of the following schools be deferred until the end of March next:—Awanui, Onewhero Papakura Valley No. 2, Toka ka °A k (6) Your Committee recommend that the engagement of the HHw? ea? her. at Inumea half-ttoe school be terminated in view of the fact- that only two scholars are receiving instruction in that subject."
