NEW ZEALAND'S THIRD CONTINGENT.
AUCKLAND'S SECTION
To-morrow morning at 10 o'clock those Aucklanders who. have volunteered for the third New Zealand Contingent are to present themselves at the Drill Hall for inspection. There are some 200 applicants, including a. number of country men, who were notified by telegram on Saturday. Lieut.-Colonel Banks, officer commanding the Auckland district, arid thej Selection Committee will be pi-e----sent. Captain Holgate, officer commanding the Auckland Moiinted Rifles, will also be present, and will assist the committee in the selection of. eligible men. A preliminary "weeding out" will take place at the Drillshed, where the men will have to answer questions as to their age, previous experience, etc., and their physique will also be taken into account. In the evening the selected men will go before the doctor for medical examination, and on Wednesday those passed will go into camp of instruction at Potter's Paddock. Funds are still urgently deeded for the despatch of Auckland's men, and it does not appear to be quite certain yet whether our section will be able to join the third contingent. If not, they will go in the fourth contingent, which is expected to leave New Zealand in a few weeks for the Cape.
Mrs Banks requests that anj r Crimean caps, bandages, etc., that the k.dies of Auckland are making for the contingents should be sent to her before February 12th.
