THE PATRIOTIC FUND.
AUCKLAND ROUGH RIDERS
It is quite evident that the people in the Auckland provincial district do not intend to allow the prestige of their province to suffer in regard to this movement, as the committee appointed for the Rough Riders' Contingent are receiving telegrams from applicants all over the district. One has been received stating that the settlers in Cloved on are raising funds to equip four volunteers, and likewise in Kihikihi and other parts. The Government, have supplied the details of the equipments required, and orders are now being given to local firms for the supply of same. The committee purpose commencing , the selection of the men at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning, at the Drill Shed, where all applicants are 'to present themselves. As soon as the men are chosen they will immediately be given orders to' proceed to the camp at I Potter's Paddock, where all the necessary arrangements have been made to start at once to make them proficient both as regards drill and shooting, otlicers being detailed to _ look ! after the men as soon as they arrive. As the Government are unable to j supply the patterns of the uniforms fit | present, it will be impossible to get the. contingent away on the 12th, so ! the committee have wired the authorities in Wellington asking the probable date of departure of the next boat. .
