SWIMMING.

The proposals for.an alliance, formulated last week by the N.Z. SwiffiIniiif;1 Association (.Registered), w\;re to bo considered at a meeting- of the Southern Association last evening. As soon as the latter body's decision is made known the date of the Championship Meeting will be fixed.

There is no doubt that the swimming vote will eventxially -go to the Associations, but at present the distribution of the grant is delayed by the absence of replies from Christchurch.

Apropos of the swimming- grarit, it may be noted, that the South Australian Government give an annual subsidy^ in aid of swimming, which is administered, through the Education Department to the Adelaide baths, to be devoted towards instruction in swimming. The proprietor of the baths also arranges for instruction iv the country districts.
