OBITUARY.
A familiar local figure in Auckland has passed away in the person of Mr James Philson. He was one of ' the most genial of men, and as auctioneer for the firm of Messrs Hunter and Nolan he gained no end of Mends. His bright manner and sallies fre-
quentiy gained him many, bids, and it can be truthfully said"; he had no "enemies. As a blood stock auctioneer he -also had no rival, and with" a "complete knowledge of all who, assembled' at he Wellington Park ring side, year after year he-always hau; the. .buyers with him. Mr Philson was one of the oldest members of the committee of the Auckland Racing Club,' and he did his; share to build it up ; to its present high position. Three old friends of deceased in Mr Thos. Morrin, Mr_W. R: Wilson, and -Mr; G. G. Stead had handsome wreaths placed !on the coffin. •'■■' ' ■•'- ■' ;
