BURGLARY AT THAMES.

THAMES, this day

On arriving at his shop this morning Mr E. J. Millies, tailor and outfitter, of Pollen-street, discovered than an entrance, had been effected during the night and goods to the'value of some £40 stolen. Apparently the thieves had managed to unlock the shop door, as there were no marks of violence anywhere, and when leaving they had locked the door behind them. The burglary was- committed after nine o'clock last night, and before five this morning-. The goods stolen comprised rolls of cloth, shirts, socks and various articles of underclothing. So far the police have no clue.

Several city endowment leaseholds were disposed of at the City Market to-day by Messrs Hall and Perkins, auctioneers. An allotment in Karangahape Road was disposed of to Mr. M. Casey at an annual rental of .-£24 5/, and another allotment in the same street to Mr J. McLaughlin for £20 5/ a year. Mr Walton purchased two allotments in Howe-street at .-£8 and £7 respectively Mr Brown one in Hopetoun-street at £7; and Mr HOldsworth one in Totara-street at £4 a year. Several other leaseholds are. Open for private purchase. The leases on the above properties are from fifty to sixty-six years. At the Board of Education this afternoon a circular was received from the Education Department informing the Board that a vote had been granted for the building of schools in districts where no schools were estab-^ lished, and asking the Board to forward particulars of buildings which they intended to construct in such districts, or which they had co;astructed this year, and the sums of money required. The secretary. was authorised to prepare a return and forward it to the department. The reports published on page 2 were adopted. The reports of the chairman and of the Teachers' Selection and Finance Committee, published on page 2, were adopted, the name of Mr Galenby being struck out from the list, of names to be sent to the Te Awamutu committee. >. j ■
