WELLINGTON, this day. ' After negotiations extending over, many years, the United States Government has at last consented to_ the establishing of a parcels post exchange with New Zealand. It is hoped to have the system in full working order by February 1 next. ■:-.-."■ v Mr Arthur Johnston, the railway/"' expert, who was brought from England eighteen months ago to superintend the, installation of- the Interlocking .system, has been obliged to resign for a domestic reason. The Government have cabled to the. AgentGeneral to send out, another man.
Mr Haselden, S.M., this morning expressed the. opinion that the time had arrived when a home for. destitute children should be established in Wellington, so that they might not bt. separated from their parents. .: Influenza, which has been more or less prevalent during the past three Aveeks, is 'now becoming virulent. Many cases are reported. . '
