SOCIETY OF RAILWAY SERVANTS.
SOCIAL GATHERING
■V very enjoj'able social was held last evening in St. Bonaventura Hall, Parnell, by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, to welcome Mr J. W. Edwards, of Christchurch, the
general secretary of the organisation, who is at present in Auckland on a tour of the branches. A most enjoyable evening- -was spent. About seventy couples were present. A good prog-ram me of dances was gone through. During the evening' several ladies and gentlemen gave vocal and instrumental items, which were much appreciated, and greatty contributed to the success and enjoyment of the evening. At 10 p.m. an adjournment was made to supper, which was served in a style that reflected great credit on the caterer, Mr A. F. Stillwell. The music was supplied by Messrs Ball and Thompson, whilst Messrs Bennett, Cameron, and P. Mewburn performed the arduous duties of M.C.'s in a very efficient manner. Taken altogether the function was a great success, and will long be remembered by the local branch as a distinct advance in the management of the Society. Mr A. Grant, the district manager, and Mrs Grant were present at the social. Great praise is due to the local secretary (Mr J. Wan-en), and the committee for their efforts in making the social such a success. The committee who carried out the arrangements consisted of:—Messrs Leek, Thomson. Miller, Cameron, Bennett, Myles, Green, Ashly, Mewburn, Moffat, Tate, Houlihan.
