N.Z. CYCLISTS' ALLIANCK
The annual meeting of the New Zealand Cyclists' Alliance was held last evening at the Amateur Sports' Club Rooms. Mr C. E. MacCormick presided.
Annual Report.—The annual report, which was adopted, recapitulated the circumstances which led to the headquarters being established in Auckland, stating, inter alia: —
"It will be remembered that the Alliance by a narrow majority removed its headquarters to Tiinani towards the end of IS9B, and shortly afterwards at a meeting In that place it was decided on the casting vote of the chairman to disband. Tho Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club and several other clubs strongly opposed this course on the ground that the Alllanoe could not disband while any of its members were willing to carry It on, and being supported iuthis view by a high legal opinion a special meeting of delegates was held in Auckland on 22nd February last, when the following affiliated clubs were represented: Auckland, Ashburton, and Waikato. A motion was passed 'That as the executive officers of the Alliance have failed to perform their duties -his meeting will proceed to elect officers to actively carry on its business.' The following officers were then elected: —Honorary secretary, Mr A. A. D-avles; treasurer, Mr C. E. MacCorm.ck; third member of executive, Mr J. W. Browne; auditor, Mr F. J. Ohlson. At the same meeting the Thames Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club was affiliated. Shortly afterwards the newly-formed Rotorua Cycle Club was admitted, and on the 20th May, 1899, the board of officers were much gratified and encouraged by receiving an application for affiliation from the Pioneer Bicycle Club of Christchurch, the largest amateur cycling club in the colony. The work of the Alliance has progressed satisfactorily since its "-establshment here, and there are evident signs of its regaining, with due energy and patience in its future control, its former influence and proper position with regard to amateur cycling throughout the colony. A sub-committee has recently been engaged in revising the Alliance rules. Their work is now complete, and cop.es of the proposed new rules will shortly be laid before the affiliated clubs for their consideration before being submitted to a special general meeting. The thanks of the Alliance are due to Dr. Jennings and Messrs Lees and Cooper, who were good enough to act as local officers in Christchurch. Mr Lees' assistance and advice In the difficult circumstances attendant on the removal of the Alliance to Auckland were invaluable, and ever since he has spared no trouble to advance its interests."
Recognition. —It was decided to apply to the N.S.W. Cyclists' Union and the Queensland C.U. asking for recognition as the sole governing body of amateur cycling in N.Z. Also to obtain their views on the • question of forming an association to comprise N.S.W.C.U., Q.C.U., and the N.Z. Cyclists' Alliance, and thus have amateur cycling in those colonies under one head body. A similar association exists at present in respect to athletics, the N.S.W.A.A.A., Q.A.A.A., Victorian A.A.A., and the N.Z.A.A.A. having formed themselves tinto one strong body known as the Australasian Amateur Athletic Association.
Affiliation. —The action of the Executive was confirmed in having granted affiliation to the Pioneer Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club, and also for permission for that Club to hold a race meeting on September 30. New Delegates.—Tho secretary of the Ashburton A.A. and C.C. wired appointing Mr R. Dacre as delegate vice Mr J. W. Browne, resigned. Alliance Championship.—A permit was granted to Auckland A.A. and C.C. to place a two-mile Alliance championship at their spring meeting, provided riders from the South will compete. Election of Officers.—President, Mr Wynn Williams (Christchurch); VicePresidents, Presidents of affiliated Clubs and Dr. Jennings, Messrs 11. T. Lees (Christchurch), and F. W. Edwards (Auckland); hon. secretary, Mr A. A. Davies; hon. treasurer, Mr F. J. Ohlson ; third member Executive, Mr J. Gnnson; auditor, Mr A. H. Cotter.
