WAITEKAURI G.M. COMPANY.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

IWEROA, this day.

The following is a summary of the works being carried on at the various sections of this Company's property: During the past month operations have resulted satisfactorily, more particularly at the No. 4 level, where ore of exceptional value, the best ever got, in this part of the mine, has been operated upon. During the past fortnight at the Te-ao-niarama section also some high grade ore has been won. At the Golden Cross section No. 1 shaft is down 39 feet below No, 4 level, and is at present penetrating tight country, though very little water has existed to trouble the work. This sinking will be continued by means of roe& drills. The drive on No. 2 reef at, No. 4 level has been advanced 37 ' feet for the month, but there is no change to report. At, the drive south on the main reef nothing fresh has occurred. The main drive north on the No. 1 gr main reef has been extended 95 feet, making a total distance driven north of 341 feet. During the last two weeks the ore has shown marked improvement, there being first-class stone for the full width of the drive, namely, 0 feet. The No. 2 rise north from- this level has holed through to No. 3 level, and has been carried up on payable stone. A leading slope has also been opened out and brought along on payable stone. No. 3 level from No. 1 shaft has been driven north 50 feet, during the month, making this drive in a total distance of 588 feet. In this drive no change has taken place. No. 5 rise from here has holed through to No. 2 level, and has been carried up on payable stone during the month. At No. 2 level the main drive north is in 900 feet, and has holed through to the winze which was sunk from No. 1 level- The manager is at present cross-cutting at this point to thoroughly ascertain the character of the reef and country. The usual stoping is going on at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 levels, and also at, Corbett's level. No. 2 shaft has been sunk 27 feet for the month, being now down a total depth of 334 feet, or within 16 feet of No. 4 level. As soon as this point is reached crosscutting will be commenced to the reef. At No. 2' level from No. 2 shaft the main crosscut is -being continued west with a view of intersecting the. western reef recently met with and driven on at the battery level, and which was alluded to in last month's report- At the Te-ao-marnma section the shaft is down 63 feet below No. 2 level, or 251 feet below the surface. A winze is also being sunk, and is down 20 feet for the month, or a total depth below No. 2 level of' 83 feet. This winze has been carried down on high grade ore for a width of two feet. The eastern crosscut is in 915 feet, and is being continued. As soon as the air compressor has been erected, more speed will be made with this work by the aid of rock drills. At the Golden Cross the work of if pairing the low level is well forward, and driving will be resumed next week. In the old Waitekauri section work is being carried on at the upper level, smithy level, and intermediate level, but nothing fresh has occurred.
