A rumour having gained currency that two young men had been drowned at Lake Takapuna, the police authorities communicated with the Takapuna telephone bureau to-day to enquire if there was any truth in the story Nothing at all, however, had been heard at the bureau of the supposed fatality, and enquiries in other directions failed to confirm the rumour Sergeant Forbes went over to the Lake this afternoon to make fuller ■enquiries.
